Piano Lessons
When you combine instrument lessons with singing, movement, games, and expression, music becomes alive and the child owns it in a way that they love it.
2024-25 Schedule
Lesson dates are highlighted on the calendar above for the 2024-25 school year.
Lesson Times
Currently all lesson times are full. Please reach out if you’d like to arrange an alternate time or be put on a waiting list for next year. All lessons are located at my home (near Melrose and Rancho Santa Fe Rd).

Curriculum
I teach music in an exploratory, natural way and at a pace that challenges, yet intrigues. The optimal time to learn music is when children are young.
Students typically begin in my early childhood family music classes as babies, toddlers, and preschoolers through the city of San Marcos Parks and Recreation Program and then progress to instrument lessons around the age of 5 or 6.
At that time, I offer private piano lessons. Lessons incorporate My First Piano Adventure® curriculum which captures the child’s playful spirit. Fun-filled songs, rhythm games and technique activities develop beginning keyboard skills with a strong focus on technique. We will introduce directional pre-reading, elementary music theory and technique with engaging songs, games, and creative discovery at the keyboard. Ear-training and eye-training are also part of the curriculum.
Tuition
I am only accepting beginning students who are age 5 or 6 at this time. All lessons are 45 minutes and each lesson year is from August to June (see calendar for schedule). There are only 5 time slots currently available. Annual lesson tuition will be divided by 10 months for a consistent monthly rate regardless of the number of lessons held that month. There will be a total of 38 lessons scheduled during the year. There are no lessons in July. Tuition is due on the last lesson of the month (Example: Due on Aug 26th for the month of September).
Monthly price is as follows:
$200 a month for 45 minute private lessons
A $50 registration/materials fee will be required to hold your lesson time. This fee will be applied to lesson book and at home materials throughout the year (as scheduled August through June). This fee is refundable if you cancel your lessons 30 days prior to the lesson start date.
Lessons will follow the calendar and tuition will not be prorated for missed lessons unless I have to cancel for some reason. If you are sick or out of town on one of the scheduled lesson times, it may be possible to schedule a makeup. If you will miss a lesson, please let me know as soon as possible. The calendar follows the school schedule of San Marcos School District and does not have lessons scheduled on school breaks and holidays.
Commitment
This is a year commitment. It’s important that you keep at it in order to see progress. If you have concerns, please share them with me. We are a team and have the same goals for your child.
Piano students will need a piano to practice on every day. Acoustic pianos that are in good condition and regularly tuned are recommended. If a piano is not possible, a keyboard with 88 keys, weighted touch, and a pedal can suffice for the first year.
Parents may attend lessons if they choose. I do recommend that parents practice at home with their student. This will help reinforce the concepts taught in the lessons and will lead to confidence at the piano. As their cheerleaders, parents should comment on things that they see their student do well. They may play the piece along with them as if they are learning to play alongside the student. They may request to hear their favorite songs or ask the student to play for others in their family. A parent’s main role in this process is to remain positive and encourage.
